E-commerce Giant Acquires Humanoid Robot Developer for Home Applications

The retail and technology conglomerate has completed the purchase of Fauna Robotics, a startup specializing in child-sized humanoid machines designed for domestic use. The two-year-old company was established by former engineers from major tech corporations Meta and Google.

Financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed, though reports indicate that all Fauna personnel, including the company’s co-founders, will relocate to join operations in New York City. The deal represents the latest move by the e-commerce leader to expand its presence in the consumer robotics sector.

A company representative expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that they are thrilled by Fauna’s mission to create reliable, secure, and entertaining robotic companions for households. The spokesperson emphasized how combining Fauna’s innovative approach with the parent company’s extensive robotics knowledge and established consumer trust could lead to breakthrough solutions that enhance daily life.

The acquired startup recently began distributing its inaugural product to selected research and development collaborators. This initial offering consists of a 59-pound walking robot named Sprout, which demonstrates bipedal locomotion capabilities.

This marks the second robotics company acquisition completed this month by the tech giant. Earlier in March, the corporation also purchased Rivr, a Swiss-based autonomous robotics firm recognized for developing robots capable of navigating stairs for delivery purposes. Like the Fauna deal, the financial terms of the Rivr acquisition were not made public.
