Airbnb Launches Private Transportation Service in 125 Global Cities
The vacation rental platform Airbnb has unveiled a new private vehicle transportation offering, extending its reach into travel services across 125 metropolitan areas worldwide. Through a collaboration with Welcome Pickups, a specialized transport provider, guests can now arrange dedicated car services in major destinations such as Paris, Bali, and Mexico City.
According to the company, preliminary testing conducted throughout Europe and Asia this year demonstrated strong user adoption, with several thousand travelers utilizing the service and providing an impressive average satisfaction score of 4.96 out of 5. The booking process integrates seamlessly with existing reservations, allowing guests to arrange airport or destination transfers directly through the Trips section of the mobile application once they have confirmed accommodation in participating cities.
Dave Stephenson, Airbnb’s chief business officer, emphasized that the transportation addition aligns with the company’s broader strategy to enhance the guest experience from arrival onward. The integrated booking system enables users to monitor their vehicle reservation status and modify arrangements without leaving the platform.
This transportation initiative represents the latest expansion of Airbnb’s services portfolio, which initially launched during the previous summer alongside an enhanced experiences program. The original service lineup encompassed ten distinct categories, including culinary services, photography, wellness treatments, fitness coaching, and beauty services across eight countries.
The platform previously partnered with Instacart in November to enable grocery pre-ordering capabilities for guests in selected United States markets, allowing travelers to stock their accommodations before arrival. These service additions demonstrate Airbnb’s strategic shift toward comprehensive travel solutions beyond traditional lodging.
The company has also been testing hotel booking capabilities as part of its platform diversification efforts. During recent quarterly earnings discussions, CEO Brian Chesky highlighted the substantial opportunity in the hotel sector, positioning it as a pathway to serve travelers regardless of their accommodation preferences throughout their journey.
